Tornado destroys 20 houses, 100 trees
Tornado destroyed at least 20 dwelling houses and over 100 trees in Jotkolshi village in Sadar upazila early yesterday.
Victims said the tornado hit the village for just 2-3 minutes around 2:00am razing the houses and trees to ground.
The storm made Abdul Kuddus, Siddikur Rahman, Abul Hossain, Siddik Pramanik, Intazul Islam, Md Hafizul Islam, Sanwar Hossain and others of the village homeless.
Talking to this correspondent, Abdul Kuddus said, although the storm lasted just two to three minutes, it destroyed our houses, trees and crops and everything.
“We are now homeless and we do not know whether we will get any help from the government,” he added.
“Villagers were asleep when the storm hit the village leaving a trail of destruction,” said Sultan Hossain, of Jotkolshi village. He said he was injured while trying to hurriedly leave his house. Like him at least 10 others were injured during the storm, he added.
Most of the tornado-hit villagers are now living under the open sky. They need immediate help from relevant quarters for rehabilitation.
Pabna Sadar upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Salma Khatun said although she came to know about the storm but she is yet to get any report from the local union parishad chairman.
