2 cops closed for creating public nuisance
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) authority last night closed a male and a female police officer to the police lines and launched probe into allegations against them that they created public nuisance at Puthia upazila remaining absent in duty in the city.
The closed officials are sub-inspector Akhtaruzzaman Paris of Rajpara Police Station and probationary sub-inspector Antara Goswami of Boalia Police Station, said RMP Additional Commissioner SM Moniruzzaman.
Defying duty, the police officers who are said to have a love affair with each other travelled outside RMP area on a motorcycle, said the acting RMP chief.
According to witnesses and local police officials, Antara suddenly jumped off the motorcycle being driven by Paris as they reached Baneswar in Puthia upazila, some 18km east from RMP. Paris was dragging her toward the vehicle while Antara was unwilling to go with him.
Locals caught Paris and beat him up as they saw a civilian man [Paris in plain clothes] was "abusing" a female police officer [Antara in uniform]. As Paris identified him as a police officer, the locals took them to the nearby Highway Police Outpost at Baneswar.
Senior police officials said Antara and Paris used to live in the same Fudkipara area in Rajshahi city and were having a love affair since long.
The RMP additional commissioner said the deputy commissioner (headquarters) Morshedul Anwar Khan was asked to carry on an investigation into the allegations against Antara and Paris. “Actions would be taken only after the investigation is completed”, he said.
