$3.69m deal with FAO signed
Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations will give Bangladesh $3.69 million technical assistance to build up capacity for investment in agricultural development.
An agreement in this regard was signed yesterday at the conference room of the Economic Relations Division (ERD) in the city.
ERD secretary Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan and FAO Representative to Bangladesh Dominique Burgeon signed the deal.
The technical assistance was awarded to Bangladesh under Global Agriculture and Food Security Programme (GAFSP) in 2010.
A FAO press release said, Bangladesh was the first Asian country to be granted the GAFSP award in relation to the global initiatives as well as the government and the development partners' efforts to drastically increase investment in agriculture development.
Also, Bangladesh inked another $0.479 million deal with FAO for establishment of livestock healthcare system at Kotalipara and Tungipara upazilas in Gopalganj district.
Same day, Bangladesh and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed an agreement to provide the latter Tk 41.95 crore under the Japanese Grant Aid for Poverty Reduction Strategy.
The ERD secretary and JICA Chief Representative to Bangladesh Dr Takao Toda signed the grant agreement.
The fund will be used to improve the quality of the classroom teaching of the primary school teachers through providing modern training in Science and Mathematics.
