Two more Jubo League men held
Police on Sunday night arrested two more Jubo League (JL) activists from different areas of the town on charge of kidnapping five people from Madrasa Mor area in the town.
The arrestees were identified as Hasu Mia, 28, son of Alam Hossain of Kandivitua area in the town and Sajeeb Hossain, 30, son of Murad Ali of Alaipur area.
Earlier on Sunday afternoon, State Minister for Youth and Sports Ahad Ali Sarker rescued five people from a gang of kidnappers and helped police arrest Jubo League activist Rajib, 24, also son of Azibor Ali of Bolaripara of the town from the district Jubo League office near Hemangini Bridge in the town.
The rescued are Abdul Malek of Bagha upazila of Rajshahi and Abdur Rashid, Golam Mostafa and Abu Raihan Rentu of Lalpur upazila and Shahin of Boraigram upazila of Natore district.
Malek said they were abducted by nine men and taken to the Jubo League office around 2:00pm while they were returning home after attending a Natore court in connection with a case.
The men told Malek to withdraw the case he filed against Abdul Jalil and Abdul Karim of Lalpur upazila and demanded Tk 50,000 as ransom.
Ahad, also the acting general secretary of Natore unit Awami League, said he rushed to the Jubo League office with police on Sunday as soon as he heard of the kidnapping while returning from a meeting.
Officer in-charge Nazrul Islam of Sadar police station said, Rajib confessed to his involvement and said 8 to 9 people, namely Hasu, Sajeeb, Hira and Bappi, were with him.
Malek also lodged a case accusing nine people with Natore police station on the same night.
Meanwhile, at a press conference at the district JL office yesterday noon, Shafiqul Islam Shimul, secretary of Natore district unit JL claimed that no JL man was involved in the abduction incident.
Shimul, also Natore Sadar upazila chairman also demanded immediate withdrawal of the case against the party activists.
