Man executed for killing woman,son

A man, sentenced to death for killing a woman and her son in Khulna 11 years ago, was executed in Jessore Central Jail one minute past Monday midnight.
ABM Nazmul Sakib alias Ashik, 32, a private tutor and son of Didarul Islam of Purbo Kalikapur in Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira was hanged until his death in presence of a magistrate and senior police and jail officials.
Jessore DIG Prison Fazlul Haque said the body of the man will be handed over to his relatives for burial at his village after postmortem.
A gang of three, led by Ashik, killed a housewife and her son after committing robbery at their house in Sonadanga upazila in Khulna on Sept 17, 2000, as they recognised Ashik as he was a tutor at the house.
A case was lodged with Sonadanga PS on September 18, followed by filing of charge-sheet. Khulna District and Sessions Judge Court sentenced Ashik to death by hanging in a judgment in 2002.
The High Court and the Appellate Division upheld the verdict. The mercy petition to the President was not granted.
