Woman gang-raped
A woman was gang-raped on the hilltop of Jungle Silimpur under Sitakunda upazila in Chittagong early yesterday.
Victim is now undergoing treatment at One Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) in Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), said police.
Duty officer of CMCH Police Outpost Bivash Chowdhury said the woman was a tenant of Jan-e-Alam on the hilltop of Jungle Silimpur.
Bivash quoting the victim said Jan-e-Alam, Iqbal and their accomplices lifted her from her shanty around 3.00am yesterday and raped her repeatedly.
Hearing her scream, locals rescued her and rushed her to the CMCH, he said, adding that Jan-e-Alam and his accomplices, however, managed to flee.
Officer-in-charge of Sitakunda Police Station Nur Mohammed told The Daily Star that they have heard about the incident from the CMCH police outpost. But, nobody filed any case yet in this regard, he said.
He said they receive allegations of rape in the area, of which, most are found false after investigation. There are feuds among several influential quarters over the government land on the hilltop.
It was seen in many of the previous cases that one group brings allegation of rape accusing members of the anti-group, he said.
Nur Mohammed said they have sent an officer to Silimpur to investigate the matter and also to the CMCH to receive the statement of the victim.
