Nine children, woman drown on Eid day

At least seven children and one woman drowned in separate incidents in Manikganj, Rajbari, Brahmanbaria, Srimongal, Chittagong and Lalmonirhat on Eid day and Thursday.
Our correspondent from Manikganj reports: Shahida Akter, 25, daughter of Ismail Bepari of Kazibadha village under Rajbari Sadar upazila in Rajbari drowned in a pond on Eid Day (Wednesday).
Family members said Shahida, an epilepsy patient, drowned in the pond as she went to take her bath.
Meanwhile, a three-year-old boy drowned in a pond in Manikganj in the afternoon the same day.
The boy was identified as Shuva, son of Kitab Ali of Bashtia village in Ghior.
Our correspondent from Brahmanbaria says: Two minor girls drowned in a pond at Uchaliapara village under Sarail upazila here in the evening on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Oishi, 6, daughter of Kamal Murshed and Nwshi, 7, daughter of Hafez Abdur Rahman. They were cousins.
Villagers said, the girls along with their parents came to celebrate Eid at their grandfather Anwar Hossain's house at Uchaliapara village under Sarail upazila.
The villagers found one body floating in the pond in the evening. Later, they recovered another body from same pond.
Our correspondent from Moulvibazar adds: Two children drowned in a pond at Srimongal upazila town in the evening of Eid Day.
Local people and family source said Sima Begum 6, daughter of a day labourer Dholai Miah and Shamsuni Begum 6, daughter of another day labourer Abdur Razzak of Bangabir Road in the town, drowned in a pond while playing on the bank of the pond near their homes.
Family members found the bodies of two children floating in the pond in the afternoon.

Our correspondent from Khagrachhari reports: Two children of a family drowned in a pond in Ansar Tila area under Sadar upazila of Khagrachhari district on Thursday evening.
The victims identified as Mohammad Shamim, 7 and Moni Aktar, 5, children of Delwar Hossain of Ansar Tila area.
Police quoting local people said Shamim and Moni suddenly slipped into the pond and drowned while they were playing on bank of the pond.
Delwar with the help of the local people recovered the bodies from the pond.
Staff correspondent in Chittagong reports: A school student drowned in a pond at Katgar village under Satkania upazila in Chittagong on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Tahmid Jasim Apon, 14, a student of class eight of the city's Cantonment English School.
Tahmid, son of Jasim Chowdhury Sabuj, bureau chief of The Daily Jugantor, Chittagong bureau office, drowned in a pond near his home while he was playing in the afternoon. He went to his village home along with his family members to celebrate Eid with near and dear ones.
Tahmid suddenly slipped into the pond and drowned while he was washing his feet. He did not know how to swim.
Our correspondent from Lalmonirhat reports: A child drowned in a pond at village Karnopur in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila on Wednesday.
The child was identified as Sabbir Hossain,6, son of Taleb Ali of village Karnopur in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila.
