3 victims of nature's freak that has hardly any cure
Two brothers have become paralysed and the third one is following them due to an unknown disease caused by genetic disorder at Manikchand Kathalpara village under Boda upazila in Panchagarh district.
The three boys -- Moshiur Rahman, 17, Motiar Rahman, 12, and Mukter Rahman, 6, are sons of Mozibor Rahman and Morium Begum.
"The three boys are affected with a genetic disorder. If any other baby is born to their parents, s/he would also develop the same disease. There is hardly any cure for such cases," Surveillance Medical Officer of World Health Organisation Dr Upal Caesar, who visited the patients recently, told the reporters.
Morium Begum said their first son Moshiur Rahman suddenly felt pain in the leg when he was a student of Class-IV. Gradually his calf muscle stiffened and swelled, tendons dried up and waist bent. His hands and legs also became numb.
Second son Motier met the same fate when he was a student of Class-III while third son Mukter, now a student of Class-I, has already started developing the symptoms.
"I arranged my sons' treatment by local doctors and kobiraj (herbal practitioners). I could not take them to any noted doctor due to poverty," said the hapless children's father Mozibor Rahman, a day labourer.
"Moshiur and Motiar were fine when they were admitted to my school. They also made good results in the examinations. But later they became paralysed due to an unknown disease. Their younger brother, now reading in Class-I, is also affected," said Poshiruddin, headmaster of Majhgram Kamath Manikchand Registered Primary School.
During a recent visit by this correspondent, parents of the three boys expressed hope that at least their youngest son would be cured if well off people extend helping hands for his treatment.
