Two accused tell the tale of Sylhet lawyer killing

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Enayet Kabir Sarker yesterday afternoon recorded the confessional statement of two accused in the case for killing of elderly lawyer Shamsul Islam Chowdhury.
Investigation officer of the case, sub-inspector Kefayet Ullah said the accused gave description how the victim's youngest son Mashhud Chowdhury Munna committed the murder. Microbus driver Burhan and Ansar Ali admitted that they helped Munna carrying the body to Sunamganj for dumping it in the Surma River.
Earlier on Saturday afternoon, Sylhet police recovered parts of the skeleton of the deceased and his panjabi, gamchha and tupi.
A police team of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) took the two accused to the Brahmangaon area of Sunamganj Sadar and recovered those from the riverbank.
Officer in-charge of Sylhet Kotwali PS inspector Khondaker Nawroz Ahmed said that the remains were sent to the morgue for post-mortem.
Earlier on Wednesday last, the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Sylhet granted police remand for four accused--Ansar Ali, Burhan, Ismail Hossain and Zaheda Khanam Janu, wife of Munna. Police started quizzing them on Thursday about the gruesome murder.
The elderly lawyer, also a former president of Sylhet District Bar Association went 'missing' on 17 July.
Mahmud Chowdhury, elder son of the victim filed a case with Sylhet Kotwali PS on 4 August. In the case, he suspected that his younger brother and his wife had a hand in 'missing' of Shamsul Islam Chowdhury,90, as their relation went sour over property-related issue.
