Coordinated efforts are needed to boost tourism and hospitality business in Chittagong, speakers said at an agreement signing ceremony here yesterday.
The Daily Star, the most-read English newspaper in Bangladesh, signed separate partnership deals with four renowned hotels in the port city to work together for the hospitality and tourism sector in the region.
The newspaper, with a focus on the country's private sector in its business news coverage, joined hands with Hotel Agrabad, The Avenue Hotel and Suites, Well Park Residence, and Orchid Business Hotel at the ceremony at the Party Centre of Chittagong Club Ltd.
The deals make The Daily Star an exclusive preferred newspaper in these hotels. The newspaper will cover not only the policy issues tied to the hospitality sector but also the initiatives taken by the hotels.
The agreements, known as “The Daily Star Partner Hotels”, will give the newspaper more visibility in these hotels and help it reach out to more readers, especially foreign guests.
The newspaper signed similar agreements with four other leading hotels -- The Westin Dhaka, Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Ruposhi Bangla Hotel and Dhaka Regency Hotel & Resort -- in the capital early this month.
The Daily Star's partnership with the hotels, first of its kind in Bangladesh, comes at a time when hopes for a vibrant hospitality industry glitter on the back of a steady rise in foreign and local tourists.
The Daily Star Editor and Publisher Mahfuz Anam signed the contracts with the hotels.
Shahin Mohammad Nowshad, senior manager (sales and marketing) of Hotel Agrabad,
Minhajuddin Ahmed, general manager of Ispahani Group that owns The Avenue Hotel and Suites, SM Shahab Uddin, general manager of Well Park Residence, and Oheidul Alam, president and chief executive officer of Orchid Business Hotel, signed the contracts on behalf of the hotels.
Anam said the agreements will contribute to the mutual growth of the respective organisations.
