US officials briefed on environment
State Minister for Environment and Forests Hasan Mahmud has called for a meaningful inter-governmental partnership between USA and Bangladesh for combating the challenges of global climate change, environmental degradation and sustainable development.
He made the call during series of meetings with US and World Bank officials and environmentalists during his two-day visit to Washington on August 10-11, said a press release of Bangladesh mission in Washington yesterday.
Hasan briefed the senior US officials on key environment issues of Bangladesh and exchanged ideas on scientific and practical matters relating to conservation of environment.
He attended a panel discussion organised by US State Department where senior US officials and environmental scientists from the US Department of Interior, Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Reclamation and Geological Survey were present.
The state minister told the experts that Bangladesh is extremely keen for conservation of its rich biodiversity and has taken up specific measures for protecting the endangered wildlife species from extinction.
