Nazrul Sangeet artistes pay homage to Tagore
Four noted Nazrul Sangeet artistes -- Yasmin Mushtari, Fatema Tuj Zohra, Khairul Anam Shakil and Sadya Afreen Mallick -- will pay homage to Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore through rendition of his songs.
The foursome are to feature in a programme, titled “Tomar Porosh Lagey”, that will be aired on Desh TV on August 6 at 8:15pm, marking the 70th death anniversary of the bard.
Each artiste will perform a Tagore song at the programme. Yasmin Mushtari will render “Bhora Thak Smriti Shudhaye”, while Khairul Anam Shakil will sing “Pothey Choley Jetey Jetey”. Their repertoire brings Tagore's thoughts on embracing death into focus.
“It was a great opportunity, for which I would like to extend my thanks to Desh TV and the producer of the programme, Bulbul Islam. For me, music is worship. My musical journey began with classical music and the compositions of 'Panchokobi' (Rabindranath, Nazrul, DL Roy, Atul Prasad and Rajanikant) in my early childhood,” said Mushtari.
Monsoon melodies will be presented by Fatema Tuj Zohra and Sadya Afreen Mallick. Zohra will perform “Sraban-er Gagoner”, while Mallick will lend her voice to the number “Ami Takhon Chhilem Magon Gahon Ghum-er Ghorey”.
“Nazrul himself was an avid fan of Tagore songs. Likewise Tagore affectionately dedicated one of his plays, 'Bashanta', to Nazrul. The compositions of the two bards vary greatly. A salient feature of Tagore's compositions is a unique amalgamation of classical and folk music, while Nazrul's melodies encompass the khayal and thumri style. When I hum Rabindra Sangeet, I feel the hypnotic effect that would definitely allure any artiste. I'd sung both Rabindra and Nazrul Sangeet since childhood, as a student of Chhayanaut,” said Sadya Afreen Mallick.
