SC asks for charge sheet of Aug 21 case
The Supreme Court yesterday asked for the charge sheet of August 21 grenade attack case to examine the allegations against Saiful Islam Duke, a nephew of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
An eight-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain asked the government to place the charge sheet before it on July 21.
Criminal Investigation Department pressed a supplementary charge sheet in this case against 30 people, including Duke, before the trial court on July 3.
The apex court yesterday passed the order during the hearing of a leave-to-appeal petition filed by the government against a High Court verdict that on May 4 this year granted bail to Duke in this case.
It also stayed for a week the HC verdict, and fixed July 21 for hearing the leave to appeal petition.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam moved the leave to appeal petition, saying that Duke cannot be granted bail, as he is a charge sheeted accused of this case.
