Phensidyl menace
Quite frequently we come across news reports on TV and newspaper that a huge number of Indian Phensidyl bottles have been seized or destroyed by the law enforcing agencies.
Phensidyl, as we know, is a cough syrup containing codeine phosphate as its active ingredient. Codeine or methylmorphine is an alkaloid extracted from opium or synthesized from morphine. Due to the presence of codeine, phensidyl is frequently abused as a narcotic.
In Bangladesh, production of Phensidyl cough linctus was prohibited long ago but it is not understood why some pharmaceutical companies are still producing Phensidyl? Isn't phensidyl causing any harm to the Indian people, particularly the young generation?
I would sincerely call upon the Indian government to impose restrictions on the production and marketing of Phensidyl.
