Charge sheet against ex-MP Habib to protect killers, claims BNP
Satkhira BNP leaders, in a statement issued here yesterday, said the charge sheet submitted on Sunday against 15 people including former lawmaker Habibul Islam Habib was aimed at protecting real killers of party leader A B M Altaf Hossain.
The statement demanded a judicial inquiry into the murder of the district BNP vice president Altaf Hossain, also president of Tala upazila BNP.
Satkhira district BNP secretary Samsuzzoha Bablu read out the statement on behalf of the party leaders.
The statement said party leaders were implicated in the case after over four years of the incident to destroy the nationalist forces as part of a deep-rooted conspiracy. He urged the authorities concerned to identify the real killers.
The charge sheeted accused are Satkhira district BNP president and former BNP lawmaker Habibul Islam Habib, Tala upazila Krishak Dal president and Kumira Union Parishad (UP) chairman Golam Mostafa, Tala upazila Juba Dal president Hafizul Islam, former Tala upazila BNP joint secretary Rasheduzzaman Raju, Shib Pada Sarkar, Shahidul Islam, Khalilnagar UP chairman Pranab Ghosh Bablu, Tushar Kumar Pal, Prakash Sarkar, Tala upazila BNP leader Badruzzaman, Juba Dal leaders Mostafa alias Montu, Ahmed Ali, Ashraful Haque, Abu Hena Alam and Debendra Nath Biswas in Tala upazila.
Altaf was killed as criminals threw bombs on him at Patkelghata bazaar in Tala upazila on May 4, 2004. Another BNP activist Habibur Rahman was also killed during the attack.
The Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Sukha Ranjan Samaddar of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) submitted charge sheet to the chief judicial magistrate's court here.
