CU employee murdered

An employee of journalism department of Chittagong University (CU) was hacked to death by unidentified miscreants on the campus on Saturday night.
Police recovered a bloodstained machete, used in the killing of Arif Uddin, 33, a peon of mass communication and journalism department, from the scene.
Sources in the CU and police said the killing took place between 8:30pm to 9:00pm on Saturday at a secluded place near a small fountain, which is around 250 metres behind the Arts Faculty.
As Arif came out of his residence at Hill Bottom Colony near Science Faculty at around 8.30pm to have a stroll on the road in front of Chittagong University Central Students' Union (CUCSU) building, the miscreants swooped on him with machetes and knives. With serious injuries in his head, chest and hands, Arif somehow managed to run up to his residence and fell unconscious.
Relatives rushed Arif to CU Medical Centre. He was later shifted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) at around 10:00pm where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
CU Proctor Prof Jasim Uddin said they were utterly shocked at the incident. “As far as we know, Arif had no enmity with anyone,” he said.
Officer-in-Charge of Hathazari Police Station Mohammad Alamgir said the motive behind the murder was not clear but they were pondering over some clues.
“Arif sustained multiple injuries, of them the head injury was the most serious and his death might have been caused by excessive bleeding,” he added.
But no case has yet been filed till 4:30pm yesterday.
