11-yr-old girl raped in Narail
An 11-year-old student of a Dakhil madrasa was raped in Nondokhol village of Narail sadar upazila yesterday.
The victim alleged Liton Sheikh, 40, and Sahajan Kazi, 41, of the village, waylaid her near a jute field when she was returning home from a shop, about one kilometre from her house. The two then raped her and left her there unconscious.
The girl's maternal uncle Mahabub Sheikh who was passing by at the time heard her groaning in the jute field. He took her immediately to Narail Sadar Hospital.
Victim's grandmother Tohirunnesa said she has been rearing the child since her birth as her parents work in a garment factory in Dhaka. She yesterday sent the girl to the shop to buy bidi for the labourers who were working at their house.
Tohirunnesa added Liton and Sahajan used to taunt her granddaughter on the way to madrasa.
Mahabub said the alleged rapists are infamous in the area for various anti-social activities.
Sanjeet Kumar Saha, a medical officer of Narail Sadar Hospital, said the girl was out of danger. "We are collecting specimen for further tests," he added.
Victim's family members said police were yet to visit the spot.
Rofiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Narail Police Station, said on hearing the news he sent a police team to the hospital. "As soon as we receive a complaint we will take action," he added.
