Wild elephants kill 1 in Ramu
Wild elephants killed an elderly man at Tutar Beel under Ramu Police Station in Cox's Bazar yesterday.
The man was identified as Md Faridul Azam, 60, a farmer.
Shafiul Alam, brother of Faridul, told The Daily Star that a herd of wild elephants attacked his brother when he was returning home alone after visiting his paddy fields at about 5:30am.
Hearing his hue and cry, locals rushed to the spot and rescued him.
Faridul was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Shafiul said the farmers were more careful to their paddy fields, as the wild elephants have been staying in the hilly areas for last 20 days.
The elephants come down from the hills during harvesting season, he added.
