10 killed in road crashes
10 people were killed and 26 others injured in separate road accidents in Narsingdi, Lalmonirhat, Jessore and Brahmanbaria yesterday.
Our Narsingdi correspondent reports: Four people were killed and 15 others injured as a bus rammed a human hauler (locally known as Leguna) on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Baghata in Sadar upazila yesterday.
Vehicular movement on the highway remained suspended for one and a half hours following the accident that took place at about 9:30am.
Three of the deceased were identified as Rafiqul Islam Shahin, 26, a student of Jahangirnagar University, Munna, 10, a primary school student and Sattar Sarkar, 45, while the identity of another deceased could not be known immediately.
The injured were admitted to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Police said the accident took place when a Bhairab-bound bus hit a human hauler at Baghata, killing four people on the spot.
Our Lalmonirhat correspondent adds: Two tobacco traders were killed as a bus hit their motorcycle on Rangpur-Kurigram road at Teesta bus stand in Sadar upazila early Friday.
The deceased were identified as Mizanur Rahman, 50, and Shahinul Islam, 42, of Dinajpur town.
Our Benapole correspondent says: Two persons were killed in separate road accidents on Jessore-Benapole road and Jessore-Khulna highway yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Sagor Hossain, son of Kamrul Huda, of Pairadanga village and Rubel Hossain, son of Abdur Rahman, of Ramnagar Pukurkul of the district.
Police said Sagor was crushed under the wheels of a truck on Jessore-Benapole road at Malancha while Sohag Paribahan ran over Rubel on Jessore-Khula road at Muruli.
Following the accident locals blocked Jessore-Khulna highway.
Our Brahmanbaria correspondent adds: One person was killed and four others were injured as a CNG-run auto rickshaw and tempo collided head-on on Comilla-Sylhet highway at Sultanpur village of Sadar upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Akbar Ali Member, 55, of Peerbari village.
The injured were admitted to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital.
UNB from Sylhet says: One person was killed and seven others were injured as a microbus plunged into a roadside ditch on Sylhet-Tamabil highway at Shreepur Picnic Centre in Jaintapur upazila on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Maniruzzaman Manir, 26, son of Akteruzzaman of Sateroti village of Dhunat upazila of Bogra.
Police said the accident occurred at about 8:00am when the microbus from Bogra fell into the ditch as its driver lost his control over steering, leaving Manir dead on the spot.
The injured were admitted to Jaintapur Hospital.
