Lightning kills 6

The bodies of six labourers, who drowned after being struck by lightning while crossing the river Titas on a boat, were recovered from a channel between Akhaura and Brahmanbaria sadar upazilas on Thursday.
The deceased are Md Afu Mia, 25, Md Ameer Hossain, 40, and Md Abdul Hakim Mia, 32, of Chinair Uttarpara village under sadar upazila, Jamal Mia, 35, of Banpalashia village under Tarakanda upazila of Mymensingh, Md Yakub Mia, 32, and Md Abul Kalam, 25, of Dubaura village of Haluaghat.
Boatman Nikli Mia, who survived the lightning and is now undergoing treatment at Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital, said the labourers were working in a paddy field of Kajla Beel.
As the dark cloud began to cover the sky, they hired Nikli's boat to cross the river.
“We were struck by the lightning while crossing the river,” the boatman said adding that the labourers fell and drowned in the river.
The bodies were handed over to their relatives, said Gazi Sakawat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sadar police station.
