Two housewives murdered for dowry in Noakhali, Manikganj

Two housewives were allegedly killed for dowry in Noakhali and Manikganj yesterday and the day before.
In Noakhali, a housewife was burnt to death for dowry allegedly by her husband and in-laws at Kandirpar village under Kabirhat upazila yesterday night, reports our correspondent.
The victim was identified as Beauty, 22, daughter of Rabeya Khatun of the same village.
Beauty and Md Azam tied knot in wedlock about four years ago. After their marriage, Azam went to Saudi Arabia in search of a job. But Azam returned home from Saudi Arabia empty-handed. On return home, he demanded Tk 1 lakh from his in-laws. He asked Rabeya to bring the money from them so that he can go again to Saudi Arabia. But Beauty denied to bring the money for him as her mother was a poor woman.
Being furious, Azam and his parents beat up Beauty mercilessly on Wednesday night. Then Azam and his parents set fire to her body. Hearing her scream, locals came to her rescue and rushed her to Kabirhat upazila health complex for treatment. As her condition worsened, doctors referred her to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. Accordingly, she was admitted to the burn unit of the hospital yesterday where she succumbed to her injuries at night.
After postmortem examination, the body was hand over to her relatives. Later, she was buried to a family graveyard.
Contacted, Kabirhat police station officer-in-charge Md Robiul said, the victim's mother filed a case accusing Azam and his parents for the murder.
In Manikganj, police recovered a body of a housewife hanging with a tree in Char Hijli area of the district town on Friday, reports UNB.
The victim was identified as Selina Akter, 20, wife of one Gafur Mia of the same village. Both of them got married about 10 months ago. Since marriage, Gafur used to torture Selina for dowry regularly, her brother Monir Hossain Musa said.
On Friday, Gafur and his family members beat up her mercilessly and strangled her for dowry, Musa said adding, they hanged her body with a tree to befool people. Selina's bother filed a case with Sadar police station accusing Gafur and her in-laws.
But Gafur denied the allegations against him saying Selina had committed suicide by hanging herself from a tree.
Contacted, Sadar police station OC Abu Taher Mia said, locals saw Selina's hanging body and informed police. Police rushed to the spot and sent the body to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.
