Security tightened in Ctg on Pahela Baishakh
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) has taken additional security measures on the eve of Pahela Baishakh, the first day Bangla New Year and the national festival of Bangalees, to be celebrated across the country tomorrow.
CMP Commissioner Abul Kashem yesterday briefed media at CMP headquarters about the security measures to be enforced in the port city.
"A thousand uniformed and plain clothed policemen will be deployed on Pahela Baishakh to keep control over the law and order situation in the port city," he said.
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and other intelligence agencies will deploy their forces alongside police, he added.
Abul Kashem said 35 programmes are scheduled to be held in Chittagong city to mark the first day of Bangla New Year 1418.
He urged the city dwellers to cooperate with the CMP to keep control over the law and order situation as they did during the world cup cricket when no count of mugging was recorded.
Kashem said the law and order situation of the port city is now better than recent past, and it has been possible for the hard labour of every member of the CMP.
