Limon's mother sues 6 Rab men
Mother of Limon Hossain, who lost his leg due to torture by Rapid Action Battalion, sued six members of Rab in a Jhalakathi court yesterday.
Henu Ara Begum filed a case with Senior Judicial Magistrate's court against Deputy Assistant Director of Rab-8 Md Lutfor Rahman, corporal Md Majaharul Islam, constable Md Abdul Aziz, nayeks Moktadir Hossain and Prahlad Chandra and soldier Kartik Kumar Biswas.
After hearing the case petition, Magistrate Nusrat Jahan directed the officer-in-charge of Rajapur Police Station in Jhalakathi to register it as a regular case, reports our Barisal correspondent.
Police were yet to receive a copy of the court's order, OC Tofazzal Hossain told The Daily Star yesterday evening.
Earlier on March 23, Rab shot the 16-year-old college student in the left leg while he was on his way to bring his cows back home at Chhaturia village in Rajapur.
He received treatment at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal after around eight hours of the incident.
Later, Limon was referred to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation in the capital, where his left leg was amputated on March 27.
Inspector General of Police Hasan Mahmud Khandaker yesterday said the shooting of Limon will be probed.
To the press at the police headquarters, he said he has asked the director general of Rab to submit a report on the matter.
The report will help find whether the Rab men are responsible or not, he mentioned adding, nobody would be spared if found guilty.
The police chief was briefing the press on the security measures adopted for the upcoming Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year.
Limon's father Tofazzal Hossain alleged Rab disabled his innocent son by shooting him. After seriously injuring Limon, the law enforcers labelled him a criminal and filed two cases against him, he added.
Rab, however, claimed he received the bullet in a 'shootout' between them and Limon's cohorts.
