Girl dies in 5-storey fall
A domestic help died after allegedly falling from the rooftop of a five-storey building in the capital's Dhanmondi yesterday.
The deceased is Tania Akhter, 10, daughter of Saheb Ali of Hizla Upazila of Barisal. She had been working as a domestic help in the flat of Sardar Abul Kamal, a government official.
Abul Kamal suspects that Tania went to the roof-top early in the morning, tried to climb down through a plastic pipe attached to the building but fell down.
The security guards of the building found her body lying dead on the porch in the morning, he told reporters.
She had long been refusing to continue to work in the house since last few days and even took several attempts earlier to flee, he said.
Tania started working as a domestic help on March 29. “As she was unwilling to continue, we informed her parents to take her home,” he added.
Officer-in-charge of Dhanmondi Police Station Moniruzzaman told The Daily Star they suspect that Tania tried to get out of the building in a frantic bid to escape, climbing down the plastic pipe.
She might have lost control over her grip and fell on the porch, he said.
Tania earlier went out of the house without her employer's concern two days back but had to return after the security guards restrained her from leaving, the OC added.
The body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for an autopsy.
