8 stalkers punished in 5 districts
Eight stalkers have been punished for the offence in Kushtia, Jessore, Mymensingh, Nilphamari and Chandpur districts.
A mobile court in Kushtia convicted a young man for stalking a schoolgirl and sentenced him to five-month imprisonment at Darpara village in Daulatpur upazila on Tuesday, reports our correspondent.
The youth was identified as Arif Ahmed, 24, son of Lutful Ali of the same village.
Police and locals said, Arif used to tease Hira Khatun, a student of class seven of Darpara High School on her way to and from school.
Saiful Islam, victim's father, lodged a complaint with Daulatpur police station accusing Arif at around 4:00pm Tuesday.
Police arrested Arif in the afternoon.
Later, a mobile court led by upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Daulatpur upazila Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal jailed Arif at around 8:00pm.
In Jessore, police on Wednesday arrested an elderly man red-handed on charge of stalking the madrasa girls at Sikri village under Benapole port police station, reports our correspondent.
The arrestee was identified as Shahjahan Ali, 50, son of Abdus Samad of the village. Officer-in-charge Shamim Musa of the port police station said, Shahjahan had been sexually harassing the girl students on their way to Sikri Aliya Dhakhil Madrasa since long.
He was teasing the girls on Wednesday morning as well.
Being informed by the guardians, a team of police led by the UNO went to the spot and caught Shahjahan red-handed.
Later, he was sent to jail hajat.
A mobile court in Mymensingh sentenced four stalkers for harassing two female students in Maheshpur village of Ishwarganj upazila on Tuesday evening, reports UNB.
The arrestees were identified as Sohel, 17, son of Abdul Kuddus, Kajol, 18, son of Abdul Rashid and Ismail, 19, son of Alim Uddin of Shreefaltala village and Sohag, 18, son of Nazim Uddin of Balua Kandi village.
Ishwarganj Atharobari Investigation Centre in-charge Shah Alam said, the stalkers teased the students of Maheshpur High School on Tuesday morning on their way to school.
They made indecent offers to the students and took their pictures by mobile phone. Hearing the screams of the girls, local rushed in, caught the stalkers and handed them over to police.
The court sentenced Sohel and Kajol to two months, Sohag one month and 15 days and Ismail one month imprisonment. Ishwarganj UNO Begum Badrun Nahar handed down the verdict.
A mobile court in Nilphamari yesterday sentenced a young man to one month jail and fined Tk 2,000 for sexually harassing a girl.
Convict Mohsin Ali,20, is son of Taiob Ali of Bijolir Danga village of Jaldhaka upazila, reports our correspondent.
The prosecution, in brief, is that Mohsin used to make indecent proposal to the teenage daughter of Abdul Aziz, also a student of class six of Kachukata Uttar Para Dakhil madrassa of Sadar upazila.
The girl brought the matter to the knowledge of her father who also informed the guardians of the youth.
As the accused continued harassing the girl, her father lodged a general diary with local police station on Wednesday. Police arrested Mohsin and produced him before the mobile court.
In Chandpur, a mobile court convicted a stalker and awarded him 18 months imprisonment in Matlab North upazila on Monday evening, reports UNB.
The court also fined convict Russell, 20, son of Motaleb Fakir of Aminpur village in the upazila, Tk 6,000, in default, to suffer one month imprisonment more.
