People frustrated over govt: Oli

After four and a half years of its formation, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) held its first public rally at Laldighi Maidan in the port city organised by LDP Chittagong city unit yesterday.
While delivering his speech, Party's Central President Dr Col (Rt) Oli Ahmed Bir Bikram criticised the government for its failure to facilitate proper gas, electricity and water supply and employment opportunities for the people.
The grand-alliance government came to power with a massive victory through a free and fair election and this raised people's expectation level. But with great despair people are seeing the price hike of necessary commodities, their democratic rights being violated and the unemployment problem disrupting harmony of society, said Oli.
Oli said he warned Begum Khaleda Zia about corrupt leaders of BNP when she was the premier of the country during the tenure of 2001 to 2006. But she did not pay heed to his words and did not take appropriate action against them resulting in the present miserable condition of BNP, he added.
Advocate Kafil Uddin Chowdhury, president of LDP Chittagong south district, told The Daily Star yesterday that activities of LDP, formed on October 26, 2006, were banned for two years during the state of emergency.
LDP Chittagong city General Secretary Gias Uddin Alam said LDP is not a Chittagong-centric party. “We have full committees in 44 districts and convening committees in the rest other districts.”
