Women's equal right not anti-Islamic: Tuku
State Minister for Home, Shamsul Huq Tuku, yesterday said equal rights of men and women are not against Islam, and every religion teaches us for equal opportunities of all.
Tuku made the comment upon Islami Oikyo Jote's (IOJ) call for hartal on April 4, protesting the government's approval to National Women Development Policy (NWDP)
IOJ Chairman Mufti Fazlul Haque Amini called the hartal from a rally at the city's Muktangon yesterday.
The sate minister following an inter-ministerial meeting at the ministry also said those, who called the hartal, could not understand NWDP 2011 properly.
NWDP, approved at the weekly cabinet meeting on Monday, includes a provision of equal share of women in inherited property and in employment and business opportunity.
Calling hartal is part of a continuous effort to save war criminals, said Tuku. He warned that the government will not tolerate any anarchy in the name of hartal.
In a reply, the state minister said he also wants former Jamaat Ameer Golam Azam to be arrested before this Independence Day, but the issue is not dealt by his ministry.
Home Minister Sahara Khatun said common people will resist issueless hartal on April 4.
She was present at the inter-ministerial meeting on security measure and traffic management on the Independence Day.
Sahara also urged different cultural and social organisations to take permission from concerned police unit for holding programme on the occasion on security ground.
