Rapist gets life in Madaripur
One person was jailed for life for rape and kidnap in Madaripur while a rape victim was rescued and the alleged rapist was arrested in Joypurhat on Wednesday.
A court in Madaripur on Wednesday convicted a man and sentenced him to life term imprisonment in a rape case and 14 years jail in another case of kidnapping.
The court also fined him Tk 5,000 in the two cases, reports UNB.
The convict was identified as Samsher Hossain, 40, son of Yusuf Ahmed Mia of Lalbagh in Dhaka.
According to the prosecution, Dipa Akhter, daughter of Jahangir Matubbar of Chargabindapur village of Khoajpur union in Sadar upazila, was kidnapped and raped by Samsher on June 5, 2008. Police rescued Dipa from Lalbagh area on July 21, 2008.
Dipa's father filed two cases with District and Sessions Judge Court of Madaripur for rape and abduction.
District and Sessions Judge Court judge Ataur Rahman, handed down the verdict.
According to our RU Correspondent, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-5) on Wednesday night rescued a rape victim and arrested a man in this connection at Biswashpara village in Joypurhat.
Arrestee Ratan, 28, is son of Abdur Razzak of Biswashpara village in Joypurhat.
Rab-5 officials of Rajshahi Zone said, at around 8:00pm Ratan and his three accomplices allegedly raped the girl at a rented house of Kamal Hossain in Biswashpara village.
On information, a Rab team rushed to the house and rescued the victim.
Sensing the presence of Rab personnel, the rapists fled the house. However, acting a trip off, the Rab men later arrested Ratan from a house in the same village at around 9.00pm.
Following the incident, the victim filed a case with Joypurhar police station accusing Ratan, Bakul Hossain, 23, Md Suman, 24, of Biswashpara village and Md Bappy, 24, of Arambag village.
