Padatik's Cultural Convention to Mark Ekushey
The 13th Padatik Ekushey Cultural Convention was held at Ramna Batomul, Dhaka on International Mother Language Day (yesterday). Tagore singer Nargis Chowdhury opened the daylong event through the song "O Amar Desh-er Mati." Artistes of Padatik Music Troupe rendered the national anthem and the Ekushey song "Amar Bhai-er Roktey Rangano" [written and composed by Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury and Altaf Mahmud, respectively].
Padatik chief, Selim S.H. Chowdhury, on behalf of the troupe, accorded reception to Language Movement veteran Dr. Ahmed Rafik. Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique graced the occasion as chief guest. Special guest, Golam Kuddus, vice president of Shammilito Shangskritik Jote, emphasised on using Bangla in all state affairs, including the judiciary. The organisers also handed over a crest to the chief guest.
TK Sengupta, president of 'Mitali-India Bangladesh Shangskriti Sangsad' [of West Bengal, India] said, "People of Bangladesh accomplished what we couldn't. That's why we come here every year to celebrate Ekushey February."
A number of artistes from Bangladesh; Tripura and West Bengal [of India] presented solo and choral songs, recitation, dance, street plays, baul songs, mime and indigenous performances at the event.
Renowned Tagore singers Papia Sarwar, Kaderi Kibria, Fahim Hossain Chowdhury, Iffat Ara Dewan, Salma Akbar, Sajed Akbar, Nargis Chowdhury and others rendered solos while noted Nazrul Sangeet artiste Ferdous Ara performed a solo "Khelichho E Bishwa Loye" and a chorus with her troupe.
Reciters of Muktodhaka Abritti Chorcha Kendra presented their production "Probhat Pakhir Gaan" at the event. Solo recitations by Laila Afroz and Mashkur-e Sattar Kallol followed.
Artistes of Sur Saptak, Bonhi Shikha, Surtirtha, Satyen Sen Shilpi Goshi and others performed choruses while members of Spondon danced to an Atul Prasad song "Moder Gorob Moder Asha" on the occasion.
Padatik Natya Sangsad and Natya Dhara staged two street plays during the second session of programme. Debashish Bordhon Roy, Rupali Dutta, Debashish Endo of Tripura performed solos while Swapan Saha and Amita Dutta [of Kolkata] and their troupe danced at the event.
The event was directed by Nargis Chowdhury.
