Mount social movement to eliminate illiteracy
Some noted citizens yesterday said a countrywide social movement should be launched on voluntarily to eliminate illiteracy.
In a joint-statement, they called upon Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to lead the movement to get the nation rid of the stigma of illiteracy.
They said from the anti-British movement to the movement for liberation, people of Bangladesh have achieved success through patriotism and voluntary action.
They said Amar Ekushey February [February 21] is a part of national identity. Students and youths of this land had sacrificed their lives in the movement for mother language in 1952. Their sacrifice has not only established rights of mother language but also made the nation proud.
After 60 years of language movement, many people of this country cannot read or write in mother language. So, a mass movement should be launched to eliminate the stigma of illiteracy.
