Tigers to start WC prep from January 9
The Bangladesh team will start their World Cup preparations from January 9 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
Chief selector Rafiqul Alam informed yesterday that they would reduce the 30-member preliminary squad before the start of the training camp.
“We will cut short the squad to 23 players. The selected players will report on January 9. After a week observation we will decide on the final 15-member squad,” said Rafiqul.
All 14 teams participating in the tournament have to announce their final fifteen before January 19 this year.
After a long holiday, head coach Jamie Siddons will return to Dhaka on January 8 to start training for the showcase event.
The national players are now playing the ongoing Premier Division Cricket League and Rafiqul said that the players will continue to play the most coveted domestic competition despite the training camp kicking-off.
“We don't have any international cricket right now, so the players should continue playing the Premier Division League,” said Rafiqul.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has recently named Shakib Al Hasan as captain and Tamim Iqbal as his deputy for a one-year tenure.
