Chobi Mela VI to begin on January 21
The sixth instalment of 'Chobi Mela', the largest exhibition and festival of photography in Asia, will be held from January 21 to February 3, 2011 in Dhaka. The announcement was made at a press briefing at Drik Gallery in Dhanmondi on December 28. The festival will feature works of creative photo-artistes from 30 countries. The theme of 'Chobi Mela VI' is 'Dreams' and the slogan is: “All that we value, that we strive to uphold, all that gives us strength, has been made of dreams.”
The festival is designed to be a birthplace of ideas, and a crossover meeting point for many photographers and photo enthusiasts. It will also showcase new trends in photography, bringing to the fore issues affecting the world at present.
The unique festival will be launched on January 21, 2011 at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Exhibitions will be simultaneously held at Alliance Francaise, Asiatic Gallery of Fine Arts, British Council, Drik Gallery, Goethe-Institut and Faculty of Fine Arts (DU) in Dhaka. In congruence with the exhibitions there will be eight workshops, two portfolio reviews, discussions, seminars and lectures at Goethe-Institut Auditorium on contemporary photographic practices.
A highlight will be a video conference with Dr. Luis Moreno-Ocampo, Prosecutor, International Criminal Court, on January 22, 2011 at Goethe-Institut. The inaugural ceremony and the evening presentations will also be broadcast live on the Internet at www.drik.tv.
Festival Director Dr. Shahidul Alam; ASM Rezaur Rahman, the curatorial director, and several internationally recognised photographers were present at the briefing.
