Gambhira Songs Win the Day
Performers of Gambhira, a popular sub-genre of folk music from Chapainawabganj, stressed the need to revive local performing art forms that are likely to become extinct on the second day (last Tuesday) of Folk Festival organised by Rajshahi Theatre.
'Nana-Natir (grandfather and grandson) Gambhira' also highlighted the history of Rajshahi city and the river Padma, which has now lost her glory.
The second-day of the five-day festival began with a discussion where speakers urged the artistes to uphold and promote traditional arts forms.
Artistes of Rajshahi Theatre performed popular folk songs that drew people from all walks of life. Of them, “Agey Ki Shundor Din Kataitam” and “Ke Banailo Rangmoholkhana” were greeted with rounds of applause.
Young artistes of Chitrageeti Nritya performed dances to traditional songs.
Sandhapradip Sangskritik Academy performed Gambhira -- highlight of the event.
The second day's programme ended with a play, “Geetoler Akhra”, staged by performers from Sundorganj, Gaibandha.
Rajshahi Theatre is holding the festival to mark the end of its yearlong silver jubilee celebrations at Kumarpara Mukta Mancha in the city.
