Invent climate tolerant technologies: President
President Zillur Rahman yesterday laid emphasis on inventing climate and salinity tolerate technologies to adapt to changing circumstances due to the global warming.
“We have to conduct research to keep the losses of valuable lives and assets by coastal natural calamities and adverse effects of global warming at a minimum level,” he told the 4th convocation of the Khulna University here.
The president said adverse effects of global climate change is now one of the main concerns. “Devastating cyclones like Sidr and Aila pushed lives, assets and environment towards huge risk, and the world biggest mangrove forest- the Sundarbans- is now getting ruined,” he said.
During the convocation, a total of 2,526 students were conferred graduation, post graduation and post graduation diploma while 20 received gold medal for their outstanding academic feat. Two students received Ph.D degree for the first time from the university.
The president said every university is a center of practicing national spirit, values, culture and literature, science and technology, economics, democracy and tolerance.
National Professor Kabir Chowdhury spoke as the convocation speaker. Adviser to the Prime Minister Professor Dr Alauddin Ahmed, vice-chancellor of the Khulna University Prof Dr M Saifuddin Shah, pro vice-chancellor Prof M Fayeakuzzaman and treasurer Fakir Abu Hossain also spoke on the occasion.
