PM sits with intelligence men today
Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina will sit with the intelligence agencies today to review the current law and order situation, including possible threat to national security.
Sources at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said the meeting to be held under the auspices of National Committee for Intelligence Coordination (NCIC) will start at 12 noon at the PMO.
The recent recovery of 13,680 live bullets from remote border village Bakakura in Jhenaigati upazila of Sherpur district has also created concern among the government high-ups, the official added.
The investigators primarily suspect that the huge quantity of bullets belonged to the Indian insurgents who are reportedly active in the bordering villages.
Meanwhile, intelligence sources said the recent violence in the garment sector and the alleged syndicates behind price-hike of essentials are among the issues to be discussed at the NCIC meeting.
NCIC, headed by the prime minister, was formed on July 30 last year.
Since then the committee meets regularly to coordinate the activities of different intelligence agencies in the country.
The government formed the high level national committee following the intelligence agencies' failure to alert the government about the mutiny-like incidents inside BDR before the carnage took place at its Peelkhana headquarters on February 25 and 26 last year.
Cabinet secretary, principal secretary to PM, Directors General of National Security Intelligence, DGFI and Special Security Forces, and the Inspector General of Police are members of the committee.
