Ulfa claims son of Paresh freed after 'torture'
Two days after United Liberation Front of Assam's (Ulfa's) military Chief Paresh Barua claimed that unidentified people kidnapped his son, the insurgent outfit yesterday alleged that Paresh's son Arindam was released after 'torture' and 'interrogations on his father'.
''Arindam was kidnapped from the main road. The faces of the abductors were covered with black clothes,'' Ulfa's Publicity Secretary Arunudoy Dohotia, said in an e-mailed statement to the media.
Arindam was tortured physically and the abductors even threatened to kill him, he alleged. Though Arindam was forced to call up his father, they could not establish the communication, the statement alleged.
'The teenage boy was asked about his father's assets, location, purported business, etc and was threatened not to disclose the abduction incident,'' Dohotia claimed.
Condemning the incident, Ulfa reiterated that the leaders 'cannot be asked at gunpoint to sit across the negotiating table'.
Stating that such incidents do not 'forebode a good future', Ulfa claimed it has identified some of the abductors and would disclose their identities soon.
The statement did not specify when and where Arindam was kidnapped nor did it say when he was released.
A few days ago, the outfit had claimed that two of their operational leaders Antu Chawdang and Pradeep Chetia were picked up in Bangladesh on December 13.
