3 Jamaat men held in Lalmonirhat
Three activists of Jamaat-e-Islami men have been arrested on charge of assaulting a Chhatra League (BCL) activist at Court Toli village of Patgram upazila.
Of them, two were picked up on Friday morning while the other was arrested at noon yesterday.
The arrestees are president of 7 no. ward Jamaat committee of Patgram municipality Nobi Kobiraj, 37, and activists of same ward Anowar Hossain, 35, and Mohibor Rahman, 42. All of them reside at Court Toli.
Police and locals said, around 8-10 Jamaat men attacked joint secretary of Patgram upazila BCL Bulbul Hossain, 22, with sharp weapons at around 10.30am while Bulbul was going to visit his friend at Court Toil.
The attackers fled the scene after severely injuring the BCL man.
Locals rescued Bulbul and took him to Patgram upazila health complex. The on-duty doctor referred him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated, hospital sources said.
The Jamaat men assaulted the BCL leader due to rivalry in local politics, police and locals said.
A case was lodged accusing eight Jamaat men with Patgram police station on Friday night, police said.
OC of Patgram PS Mohammad Estesham said police have already arrested three Jamaat men and are trying to arrest the other attackers.
