Judgement in 3 cases in Jan, Feb
Judgement in the cases for BDR mutiny at 29 Rifles Battalion in Khagrachhari and at 32 and 35 rifles battalions in Kushtia will be delivered on January 13 and February 2 next year.
The special court-15, headed by Chittagong Sector Commander Lt Col Zahedur Rahman, yesterday fixed January 13for judgment against 47 rebels of 29 Battalion under Khagrachhari sector, according to a correspondent.
Two other members are Lt Col Abdur Nur and Major AZM Golam Mostafa AL Mamun. Commanding Officer of 29 Rifles Battalion Mafta-ul Karim is the prosecutor.
After argument, the court adjourned the trial until 10:00am on January 13 and ordered the authorities concerned to produce all the 47 accused before it (court).
Four of the 47 accused confessed to their involvement in the mutiny at the battalion headquarters on February 26 last year while the rest claimed innocence.
The special court on December 9 completed recording statements of the witnesses in the case.
Deputy Attorney General Kazi Mohammad Ejarul Haque Akand, special public prosecutors Md Habibur Rahman and Aminur Rahman Khan were present in the court.
In Kushtia, the special court-17 fixed February 2 for judgment in two mutiny cases filed against 73 jawans of 32 and 35 rifles battalion under Kushtia sector, reports our correspondent.
Of the 73 accused, 61 belong to 32 Rifles Battalion in Kushtia and 12 to 35 Rifles Battalion in Chuadanga. Seventeen of them confessed to their involvement in the mutiny while the remaining 56 claimed innocence.
Two other members of the court are Lt Col Ainul Jamal and Major Asfaq Hossain.
Subedar Alauddin of 32 Rifles Battalion and Nayak Subedar Amzad Hossain of 35 Rifles Battalion filed two separate cases against the jawans as they revolted against their officers at their respective battalions on February 26 last year.
They looted firearms from armouries, blocked Kushtia-Meherpur road for several hours and fired blank shots, the complainants stated in the case statements.
Deputy Attorney General Md Selim was present in the court.
