Verdict in case against 25 BDR men on Jan 24
The special court-12 of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) in Naogaon yesterday fixed January 24, 2011 for judgment in the mutiny case against 25 jawans of 43 Rifles battalion, reports our Chapainawabganj correspondent.
Earlier, arguments between the prosecution witnesses and 25 alleged mutineers were completed in the afternoon.
The special court-12, set up at 43 Rifles Battalion headquarters in Naogaon town, headed by Rajshahi Sector Commander Colonel Ehia Azam Khan, started proceedings at 10:00am and continued until 2:00 pm. Two others members of the court are Lt Col Gazi Mohammad Khalid Hossain and Lt Commander (BN) Muhammad Touhidul Islam.
Arguments over, prosecutor Lt Col Fazlul Haque, also commanding officer of 43 Rifles battalion, pleaded for justice for the incident that took place at the battalion headquarters on February 26, 2009.
Of the accused Nayeb Subedar Sheikh Atiar Ali, Lance Nayeks Rezaul Karim, Aminuzzaman, sepoys Alim Al Fuad, , Fayez Ahmed and Munsi Nazmul Haque confessed to their involvement in the mutiny and begged mercy while the rest 19 -- Subedar major Khalid Hossain, Nayek Sheikh Farid, Lance Nayek Akram Hossain, sepoys Masum Billah, Motiar Rahman, Biplob Hossain, , Ariful Islam, Nur Mohammad, Khondokar Mamun Hossain, Jamal Hossain, Shahinur Alam, Moshtak Ali, Kohinur Islam, Jabed Younus, Iqbal Hossain, Mosiur Rahman, Mehdi Hasan, Shahidul Islam and Nayek Hedayed Ali claimed innocence.
The court on Tuesday completed recording depositions of 21 prosecution witnesses in the mutiny case.
Witnesses said the accused looted arms from the battalion armory and fired blank shots on February 26 last year. They also revolted against their officers, expressing solidarity with the mutineers of BDR headquarters at Pilkhana in the capital,
In Dinajpur, Special Court-13 of BDR mutiny trial of Phulbari 40 Battalion recorded the statements of 24 witnesses to the incidents yesterday, reports our correspondent.
The deposition was adjourned till 9.00pm today, BDR sources said.
The court resumed on Monday last after an adjournment of 54 days.
It recorded statements after the accused BDR men were produced before the Special Court. Of them five confessed to their involvement in the incident last year.
Prosecutor of the court Lt Colonel Amirul Islam Shikdar, also commanding officer of Phulbari 40 Battalion, appealed to the court to frame charges against the accused on Monday last.
Chief of Panel Colonel Saleh Ahmad, Sector Commander of Dinajpur Sector, framed charges against the 23 accused.
Meanwhile, the verdict of Joupurhat-3 Battalion mutiny trial will be delivered today, said BDR sources.
The trial of 20 BDR mutineers started October 19 at Special Court-13 led by Colonel Saleh Ahmad, Commander of Dinajpur Sector.
