'Unite to stop stalking'
Foreign minister Dr Dipu Moni has stressed the importance of social resistance against stalking as it creates obstacles in the way of flourishing talent and playing appropriate role of women in the society.
She was addressing as chief guest the inaugural function of a two-day programme, marking the 87th founding anniversary and a grand reunion of present and former students of Barisal Government Girls' High School on Friday.
The foreign minister said the heinous crime like teasing girls cannot be prevented by committing suicide. Rather, the people in the society have to build up united resistance against the evil act.
Women should not underestimate themselves in male dominated society in our country, she said, urging them to march forward by overcoming all mental and social barriers.
Chaired by Jebunnesa Afroz, convener of the anniversary observance committee, over 600 former students and guests from home and abroad attended the programme. BCC Mayor and city AL president Shawkat Hossain Hiron inaugurated the programme which was also addressed, among others, by lawmaker advocate Talukdar Md Yunus, Nomanur Rashid, director general of higher and secondary education, Papiya Jesmine and Sankar Kumar Paul, headmaster of the school.
Barisal Government Girls' School was established in 1923 on about three acres of land. The number of students of the institution now stands at 2,500.
