City Jamaat chief on fresh remand
A Dhaka Court yesterday placed Dhaka City Jamaat-e-Islami chief Rafiqul Islam Khan on a two-day fresh remand in connection with a case filed for preventing police from discharging their duties in front of National Press Club in the city.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Nazrul Islam passed the order after Sub-Inspector Abdur Rashid of Shahbagh Police Station, also the investigation officer of the case, produced Rafiqul before it with a five-day remand prayer.
Rafiqul's lawyers submitted a petition seeking bail which the court rejected.
He was produced before the court on completion of his five-day remand, issued on December 8.
The case was filed with Shahbagh Police Station on June 29 this year. Rafiqul's name was not in the first information report. Later, he was shown arrested in the case for his alleged involvement with damaging vehicles and preventing police from their duties.
