Three jute go-downs gutted by fire
Three go-downs of Abdul Latif Bawani Jute Mill were gutted in a blaze at Demra in the capital last night.
Fire brigade sources said the fire originated from one go-down around 8:30pm and soon engulfed two adjacent go-downs.
On information, firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the flames after about three and a half hours.
Locals joined them in fighting the blaze.
Abdur Rashid, deputy director of Fire Service and Civil Defence, told The Daily Star the reason behind the fire could not be known immediately. None was injured in the incident, he added.
Over 50,000 mounds of jute were burned to ashes, said Enamul Haque, general manager of the jute mill.
Mill workers brought out a procession last night demanding proper investigation into the incident.
