All 60 opposition notices rejected
All 60 notices submitted by opposition lawmakers demanding discussions in parliament on price hike of essentials, law and order, stalking, spike in house rent in the city and other issues were rejected yesterday.
Deputy Speaker Col (retd) Shawkat Ali turned down the notices citing a set of oft-repeated reasons.
He said issues raised in some of the notices could be resolved by the respective authorities and under the existing laws, while the contents of some others were not clear and also based on assumption.
“I am sorry I can not accept any of the notices,” said the deputy speaker.
BNP lawmakers Zainul Abdin Farroque, Zafrul Islam Chowdhury, ABM Ashrafuddin Nizam, Nazrul Islam Manju, Rehana Akhtar Ranu, Nilufar Chowdhury Moni, AM Mahbubuddin Khokon, Nazim Uddin Ahmed, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee and independent member Fazlul Azim filed the notices.
They urged holding discussions on the issues, adjourning the other scheduled business of the sitting.
The main opposition BNP did not join the seventh session, which was prorogued yesterday.
The session in three consecutive sittings held general discussions on the national educational policy, a thanks-giving motion for Sheikh Hasina's honorary doctorate degree from St Petersburg State University and nuclear power plant.
