More stalkers jailed, cop punished for neglect
A police sub-inspector was punished for neglect in arresting a stalker while four stalkers landed in jail yesterday and the day before.
A Sub Inspector (SI) of Nalitabari police station in Kishoreganj was closed yesterday on charge of failure to arrest a stalker.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Anisur Rahman told UNB that SI Zahirul Islam was closed to the police lines yesterday on charge of negligence to arrest stalker Sohel who allegedly stalked a madrasa student and stabbed her.
Police said Sohel, son of Abdur Rashid of village Kutubkora, along with his aides stabbed Zinatun Nesa Mousumi of the same village, leaving her critically injured at her house at about 7pm on December 7.
Mousumi was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Shamsul Haque, father of the victim, filed a case accusing Sohel and seven others with Nalitabari police station in this connection.
SI Zahirul Islam was the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case. He failed to arrest accused Sohel and his aides even after four days of the incident.
In Narayanganj, two youths were sentenced to jail in separate incidents in Amlapara and Gognagar areas of the town yesterday, reports a correspondent.
The two are -- Afzal Hossain Topu, 20, son of Badiruddin of Amlapara and Sohel, 20, son of Badal Hossain of Gognagar area of the town.
Officer-in-charge Akter Hossain of Sadar model police station said Topu used to stalk a girl over cell phone. He even threatened her family members as they fixed her marriage somewhere else on December 26.
In another incident, stalker Sohel was sentenced to jail for harassing a girl in Gognagar area of the town.
In Khulna, a mobile court sentenced a stalker to one year simple imprisonment on Wednesday as allegation against him for stalking a schoolgirl was proved true, reports our staff correspondent.
The convict was identified as Mukta Sheikh, 24, son of Golam Mostafa Sheikh of Bamondanga village under Rupsha upazila.
The executive magistrate and Rupsha UNO Md. Monirul Islam delivered the judgment as head of the mobile court in presence of the police, guardians of both the victim and the accused and also eye-witnesses of the incident.
Police sent the convict to Khulna district jail soon after the pronouncement of the verdict.
According to OC of Rupsha PS Shikder Mashiur Rahman, stalker Mukta attempted to kidnap Suma Khatun, 14, a student of class nine and daughter of Shikder Mostain of the same village.
The incident occurred at about 9:30am on Wednesday while she was on way to her school by a three wheeler van.
Pedestrians rescued the schoolgirl from clutch of the stalker as she cried out for help.
Head Master Hironmoy Mallick of Shiali High School immediately brought this matter to the notice of the mobile court headed by the UNO.
In Satkhira, a mobile court sentenced a man to 15 days imprisonment for stalking a school student at village Sekendra Nagar in Kaliganj upazila Wednesday, reports our correspondent.
Kaliganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Toufique Elahi Chowdhury, also the executive magistrate, delivered the judgment after hearing both sides.
The convict was identified as Mokhtar Hossain, 45, son of Amadar Sardar of village Sekendra Nagar.
Mobile court sources said Mokhtar used to stalk Sabina Khatun, 14, daughter of Abdul Halim Sardar on her way to school off and on.
On Wednesday, Mokhtar teased the victim, a class seven student of Dhuliapur Adarsha High School while she was returning home after attending classes. Her father filed an allegation with Kaliganj PS against the stalker yesterday.
Police arrested Mokhtar and the mobile court handed down the verdict.
