Govt gets a week for preparation of hearing
The High Court yesterday gave one-week time to the government to take preparation for hearing the writ petition that challenged the martial law trial and execution of Col Abu Taher in 1976.
The court also adjourned the hearing on the writ petition till December 13.
Taher's wife Lutfa Taher, his brother Anwar Hossain, and Fatema Yusuf, wife of Yusuf Ali Khan who was sentenced to life term in the same trial jointly filed the petition on August 22 this year.
An HC bench of Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain yesterday also fixed December 13 for next hearing on the petition following a time prayer moved by Additional Attorney General MK Rahman.
During hearing yesterday, MK Rahman told the court that they (attorney general's office) needed time for making a reply to the rule earlier issued by it.
Dr Shahdeen Malik represented the petitioners.
