Stalker's acid threat ruins her HSC exams
A college girl in Dinajpur could not sit for her HSC test examination yesterday, as a stalker threatened to throw acid on her face on way to the college.
She is a candidate of the upcoming HSC examinations from Pachbari Degree College.
Ujjal Chandra Sarker, 22, son of Gokul Chandra Sarker of Umarpoil village under Dinajpur Sadar upazila, has long been stalking the girl, her family members told The Daily Star requesting not to disclose her name for social reasons.
When she was going to the college yesterday morning, Ujjal asked her to marry him or he will throw acid on her.
At this, she screamed and ran back to her home without taking the exam, her family members added.
Ujjal is a BA student of the same college.
Locals, however, caught Ujjal from the spot and handed him over to the college authorities.
On information, a police team led by Md Hasan Shamim Iqbal, officer-in-charge of Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station, visited the college to capture him but failed, as the college authorities had already freed him.
Sultan Salauddin, principal of the college, said they released Ujjal upon undertakings that he would not disturb the girl in future.
Police later raided his home but could not arrest him, as he had already gone into hiding.
Family members of the victim alleged Ujjal has long been asking her to marry him. Although she has been married to another boy recently, Ujjal continued to press her for the same, they added.
