Keep 2 judges out of judicial functions

SC Bar president urges chief justice

Pro-BNP faction of the Supreme Court Bar Association has called on the chief justice to keep the two newly sworn-in High Court judges out of judicial functions to protect the image and dignity of the Supreme Court.
SCBA president Khandker Mahbub Hossain said the chief justice can send the two judges -- Ruhul Quddus and M Khasruzzaman -- to other offices on deputation if necessary.
“Otherwise, if any untoward incident happens in the face of protest by lawyers, the honourable chief justice will have to take all the responsibilities,” he said at a press conference yesterday at the south hall of SCBA.
The lawyers loyal to BNP also announced to stage sit-ins for 10 minutes every working day in front of the courtrooms of the two judges.
Earlier in the morning, a group of pro-BNP lawyers led by Rafiqul Islam Mia and Zainul Abedin staged a sit-in for 10 minutes in front of their courtrooms.
Pro-BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami lawyers have all along been against the appointment of the two.
Justice Ruhul Quddus was an accused in a murder case filed in 1988 and Justice M Khasruzzaman in a case filed for vandalising the attorney general's office in 2006.
The High Court has recently dismissed both the cases.
Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Nasiruddin Asim, Morshed Al Mamun, and Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal, among others, were present at the press conference.
