God's wonder for devotees, freak for others
A plant having some resemblance to fingers is drawing a large number of visitors at Rasulpur village in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila while many people have started worshipping it as an incarnation of god.
A few days ago a bamboo cluster was cut down near the house of Prosad at the village, villagers said.
On Saturday morning, Proshad's daughter Rekha Rani, 13, went there to collect bamboo roots and found the plant. She rooted up the plant and brought it home.
Later on the day, housewife Madhuri Rani saw the plant and bowed down before it, saying, "It is not an ordinary plant. God has come to earth in the guise of this plant."
As the news spread, hundreds of people came to the spot to see the unusual plant.
A section of people belonging to the Hindu community started offering worship to it.
During a visit there yesterday afternoon, this correspondent saw Hindu devotees bowing to the plant kept in a newly made thatched room.
Hozai Goshwami, a priest of nearby Horihorpur village, said, "In modern time Bhagaban comes to the earth with different forms."
Abdul Gaffer, head of botany department of Thakurgaon Government College, said, "The plant might have grown from a bamboo root. Somehow it has taken such a shape."a
