Two murdered
Police recovered bodies of two youths, one from West Tejturi Bazar in the city and another in Keraniganj, yesterday.
In the city, Mohammad Rubel, 21, son of Ayub Ali of West Karwan Bazar, was found dead with several gashes on the throat at an alley close to Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST).
Victim's younger brother Mohammad Raju said Rubel had been missing since Sunday night. He said he was heading for Uttara after receiving a call from a friend Rifat around 10:00pm.
The victim's family alleged that Rifat's brother Tofazzal has killed Rubel that night on the university premises. Tofazzal is known as a drug peddler in the area, said Raju.
Locals said some youths used to enter the university compound by force to take drugs and stayed there throughout night. They often snatch valuables from the pedestrians and take refuge in the compound, they added.
A K M Mohammad Wahidul Hoque, director of the institution, said they had informed the police several times about the illegal activities on the campus by the local goons.
Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Tejgaon Police Station, said Rubel's father has filed a murder case in this connection. No one has been arrested till yesterday.
In Keraniganj, police recovered the body of an unidentified young man aged around 30 with his face completely burnt.
The body was sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Mohammad Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Keraniganj Police Station, said they found the body in Hazratpur area around 2:00pm.
Police suspected that the man might have been strangled, and the killers set fire to his face so that no one can identify him, said Asaduzzaman.
