Trial of 25 BDR rebels starts at Naogaon

Trial of 105 BDR mutineers of battalion 21 and battalion 38 under Sylhet sector began at special court-14 at the sector headquarters at 9:00am yesterday.
Meanwhile, the special court in Naogaon yesterday began trial of 20 mutineers of 43 Rifles Battalion.
In Sylhet, Subedar AKM Helal Uddin read out the allegations against 44 BDR men of 21 battalion while Lt Colonel Khairul Quadir, commanding officer of the battalion spoke as prosecutor, according to our staff correspondent.
The court headed by Comilla Sector Commander Col SM Farhad took the allegations into its cognisance and ordered for showing the accused arrested in the case under BDR rules.
Lt Col Akhtaruzzaman and Major Md Masudul Haque are the members of the court. Deputy Attorney General Farhad Ahmed and Public Prosecutor Misbah Uddin Siraj of Sylhet were also present.
Trial of the mutineers of battalion 38, began at 12 noon at the same court. Subedar Major Minhaz Uddin read out the allegations against 61 accused of the battalion. He also told the court that 47 of the accused are now in jail hajat while the rest are at the battalion headquarters.
The court ordered arrest of the rest 14 and asked the authorities concerned to produce all the 61 accused in the court at 3:00pm today for trial. Acting Commanding Officer of the battalion Major Aman ullah Khan appeared as the prosecutor.
Besides, the trial of the 34 BDR mutineers of Sylhet Sector headquarters will begin at 9:00am today at the same court. The then officer-in-charge of Sylhet Kotwali Police Station Syeduzzaman filed three separate cases with the Chief Judicial Magistrate court on May 17 last year against the mutineers Sylhet sector headquarters and two battalions under the sector. They were later arrested and produced before the Chief Judicial magistrate's Court that sent them to jail hajat.
Our correspondent from Chapainawabagnj reported that special court-12 yesterday took the allegations against 25 mutineers of 43 Rifles Battalion headquarters in Naogaon into its cognisance.
The complainant DAD Abdul Latif read out the allegations brought against the mutineers before the court. He alleged that the accused looted firearms from the battalion armoury and fired blank shots on February 25 and 26, expressing solidarity with the mutineers of BDR headquarters at Pilkhana in the capital.
The court ordered the complainant to produce the accused in the court today.
The accused BDR men are Subedar Major Khalid Hossain, Nayek Sheikh Farid, Lance Nayek Akram Hossain, sepoys Masum Billah, Motiar Rahman, Biplob Hossain, Rezaul Karim, Ariful Islam, Romiuzzaman, Nur Mohammad, Khondakar Mamun Hossain, Jamal Hossain, Shahinur Alam, Moshtaque Ali, Kohinur Islam, Zabed Younus, Iqbal Hossain, Munishi Nazmul Haque, Mosiur Rahman, Mehdi Hasan, Alim Al Fuad, Fayez Ahmed, Shahidul Islam, Nayeb Subedar Sheikh Atiar Ali and Nayek Hedayed Ali. Police arrested Sheikh Atiar Ali and Hedayed Ali at the battalion headquarters yesterday.
Headed by Rajshahi Sector Commander Col Ehia Azam Khan, trial proceedings against the accused started at 10:00am. The two other members are Lt Colo Khalid Hossain and Lt Col Touhidul islam.
